The Fashionista Award!

I have some exciting news to share! My blog has been nominated for The Fashionista Award! Thank you to Natalie for nominating me! If you’d like to check out her blog, it is

Here are the ten questions I have been asked 🙂

Question 1 – What motivated you to start blogging?

I have always been interested in writing and reading, I do an English Literature degree at University. I could really see my writing improving and wanted to capture its progress I guess. Also I think with restrictions in the media, it is important to be able to have a voice and showcase that to others.

Question 2 –  Favorite clothing brand?

My favourite clothing brand is definitely River Island. I love really out there prints and bold colours and their store is full of items like that. My style is really unique and I don’t tend to follow trends. If I am comfortable in something, I don’t care about what anyone says I’ll buy it. I also love Top Shop (especially the student discount). I buy my jeans from Top Shop and a lot of underwear from there. I also love their winter collections as well because they do some gorgeous knitwear pieces.

Question 3 – What is you’re dream career?

My ultimate dream career would be to be a writer for a living. I would love to write a novel, do articles for magazines on either fashion and beauty or sport and fitness.

Question 4 – Top wish list items at the moment?

I’m a clothes horder and I have recently seen some beautiful dresses that I want to purchase for my holidays! Also on my wishlist there are some nude 6 inch heels I have seen from Dorothy Perkins that are beautiful! As well as books, books and more books!

Question 5 – Do you prefer to online or store shop?

I much prefer to shop in store. I feel like you really get a feel of the different fabrics. Also one item does not suit all. I always like to try my clothes on before I buy them and get the best fit possible. I also think online shopping takes the fun out of meeting your girlfriends and asking advice on certain clothes and styles. I would much rather be out and about shopping than sat in front of my laptop.

Question 6 – Use 3 words to describe you?

Happy, creative and hardworking.

Question 7 – Favorite fashion designers?

I have always loved Ralph Lauren. I own a purple cashmere jumper of his, a woolen jumper and a polo shirt and I am in love with all items. His fragrances smell beautiful as well.  I love Jimmy Choo also.

Question 8 – Describe you’re dream vacation?

My dream holiday would be to a place like Bora Bora or the Maldives. Somewhere hot and sunny and really relaxing. Also somewhere I could relax but mix it up with water sport activities. Both of those destinations look like paradise.

Question 9 – What are the goals for you’re blog?

My goals are for people to enjoy what I write. I want people to be interested in my work and inspire people. I have inspired a few people to make a blog and they really enjoy it.

Question 10 – If you had the opportunity to interview a celebrity, who would it be?

I would choose to interview Angelina Jolie. I would ask her not only about her acting career but about her role as an ambassador. I would ask about her charity work and opinions on world issues.

Day 17 – 4 Things I Am Currently Excited For

With my second year at uni over I have a three month summer fuuuuulllllll of exciting things going on! Here is a list of the four top things I’m excited to do!

1- Going to Vienna to visit my best friend! My best friend from uni lives in Vienna and I’m flying out to see her. I can’t wait to see her and for her to show me around!

2- Work experience at The Independent newspaper. I was fortunate enough to get two weeks at one of the biggest newspapers in England so I’m really excited to go to London for two weeks and get some valuable experience to my future career.

3- Going to Rome with my Boyfriend!

4- Spending a lot of time with my family.

Day 16 – Are ‘Fitspirations’ a bad thing?

I have been wanting to write this article for a while. There is so much controversy in the media as to whether ‘Fitspiration’ images are encouraging or a negative influence on people. You’ll have probably noticed I have a Fitspiration section on my blog, where I post influential quotes for encouragement to people. However in my opinion there are two kinds of Fitspiration posts.

The negative kind makes women strive to unhealthy goals. 1 Most photos are heavily photoshopped to make women feel insecure about their weight (even though they are a healthy weight). Images in the media are extremely influential to women all over whether it be a teenager or a woman who is in her forties. Seeing the image above (what can only be dubbed as ‘thinspiration)’ is an unrealistic goal for anybody. Women have hips and curves and should embrace them instead of thinking they should lose them to look like the photoshopped women in these photos. I think these kinds of Fitspirations make women feel bad about themselves. Instead Fitspiration should be used to encourage women that working out is healthy but in moderation. Women shouldn’t feel guilty about eating certain foods or taking the escalator instead of the stairs. Which brings me onto the positive Fitspo.

I’m all for a good motivational quote which is why I post them. It encourages and motivates people. However when choosing which Fitspiration posts you decide to read, stay away from the ‘Thinspirations’ and focus on inspirational kind. The kind that actually makes you feel pumped to go to the gym or for a run or whatever, instead of making you feel bad and guilty you ate chocolate.

Day 15 – 10 of the Best Presents for Students

1- Literally ANY food. Students always need more food. Whether it is chocolate or snacks to a voucher for Sainsbury’s or Tescos for their next shop.

2- A flask so they can take tea/coffee/hot chocolate to their gruelling 9am lectures.

3- A Kindle. As an English student I know that there is nothing worse than lugging tonnes of textbooks around so a Kindle solves all of that.

4- The obvious one – ALCOHOL. Trust me it will be used.

5- Student houses aren’t the warmest so a good blanket/ onesie/ hot water bottle will definitely come in handy.

6- A whiteboard. Whether it is for house/ hall messages or for organisation they come in really handy!

7- Anything to decorate their rooms with. So posters of their favourite bands or photoframes etc.

8- Jokey presents like scrabble fridge magnets that will make their accommodation more cosy.

9- A student cook book. My grandma bought me one when I went to uni and it came in soo handy.

10- Anything that will save them money. For Christmas my relatives get me a load of stationary and toiletries because I will use them and it saves me buying them.

Day 12 – A Review of the Last Book I Read

The last book I read was ‘Little Face’ by Sophie Hannah. I had to read this book for my University book club. ‘Little Face’ is basically about a woman called Alice who has a baby and believes that one day when she went out and came back it had been swapped with another one who is nicknamed ‘Little Face’. Her twisted husband, David and controlling mother in law, Vivienne do not believe her, thinking she is insane. Meanwhile the police who are in charage of the case deal with their own relationships. Eventually we find out that Alice has been an unreliable narrator and she lied about the whole thing to escape her husband and Vivienne and start a new life with baby Florence. The chapters in this novel alternate between the police’s investigation and Alice’s point of view. Each chapter is headed with a different time and date and goes backwards and forwards (which I found really confusing). All in all I didn’t see much point to this book. The whole novel was about a kidnapped/swapped baby and in the end this has been a lie. The chapters with the police were overdone in the fact that swearing was randomly used where it didn’t need to be and didn’t give any effect whatsoever because it was used that often. The ending in my opinion was very rushed as it explained everything in the last few chapters in a rash manner. Also the last sentence felt like it was plucked out of nowhere in order to finish the book. It didn’t leave me thinking what would happen to the characters. The characters weren’t described in much depth so I didn’t really have any sympathy for any of them, especially Alice the protagonist. The first chapter intrigued me, however as I got further and further into the novel it began to bore me. Overall this novel had potential to be really good but it was a disappointment.
