10 Reasons to Aqua Jog!

Aqua Jogging is basically running in a swimming pool with a resistance belt on. It is a fantastic workout for people who are injured! Last year I managed to traumatize the ligaments in my foot from over training and I was gutted I couldn’t run. However Aqua Jogging is a great alternative to running because you are doing the running motion but it doesn’t hurt. Even if you aren’t injured it is such a good workout! Here are a few reasons why you should take up aqua jogging!

1- It is a great form of exercise if you are injured, elderly or overweight because it has a low impact on your muscles and joints.

2- You can do it any season! Whether it is pouring down with rain, snowing or there’s a heat wave, it doesn’t matter you can still do it because it is inside.

3- Water is denser than air so you work harder meaning that you burn more calories!

4- The pressure of the water helps your heart so you get the same intensity of exercise at a lower heart rate.

5- Your fitness level is maintained so when you feel that you have recovered from your injury you will be at the same fitness before your injury!

6- It is an all over body workout!

7- You can have two sessions in one! You can do half an hour of swimming then half an hour of aqua jogging if you wanted to mix up your workout.

8- When I was injured I missed running so much so this is a great alternative because you are running but the difference is you are now in water instead of land!

9- Celebrities such as Jennifer Aniston are hopping on board too.

10- You can vary it as much as you’d like. At the start of your injury you can do lots of aqua jogging but then as your injury improves you can do less aqua and more land until eventually you are all land!

10 Reasons Why You Should Watch Keeping Up With the Kardashians

Whether you love them or hate them the Kardashian/Jenner family (or should I say empire) is worth millions of dollars. The famous reality show (which only premiered six years ago!) gives us an insight into their lives. There are several spin offs of the show such as Kourtney and Kim Take New York, Khloé & Lamar, and Kourtney and Khloé Take Miami, (which was retitled Kourtney and Kim Take Miami). Keeping Up With the Kardashians is definitely my guilty pleasure! Here are ten reasons why you too should jump on the bandwagon and see what it’s all about.

1-      Scott Disick’s hilarious one liners. He is Kourtney’s long term boyfriend and has been known to be the ‘black sheep’ of the family. Scott also goes by the name ‘LD’ which stands for Lord Disick. His one liners are so entertaining.

2-      You get an insight into the world of fame and fortune. The Kardashian/ Jenner clan take amazing vacations to places like Bora Bora and the Dominican Republic.

3-      They are a good example of a really strong family that has each other’s backs through everything.

4-      The dramas and bizaar activities they get up to are really entertaining.

5-      The Kardashian women are great role models for women. They show women everywhere that they should embrace their curvaceous bodies. This is something I feel that this society lacks.

6-      You learn new vocabulary! They have their own phrases like ‘cray-cray’, ‘douchelord’ and ‘slob kebab’.

7-      There is something for everyone, whether you’re a fan of Olympian Bruce Jenner, Basketball Star Lamar Odom or the Kardashian Clan as a whole.

8-      They all have great style. The Jenner/Kardashian ladies all have different styles and looks.  Whether it is for a classic red carpet event or a boho look for a day out shopping they look fabulous!

9-      It is a great escapism/guilty pleasure to watch as you’re unwinding after a hard day at work.

10-   It’s funny! Watching Keeping Up With the Kardashians will definitely make you laugh, there are so many different personalities all contributing to the show.

10 Reasons Why Women Should Take Up Boxing

For years and years women have been treated as the inferior sex. This prejudice has been found in sports, it was not until 2012 that women were allowed to box in the Olympics. This prejudice and stereotype that women ‘should not box because it is not feminine’ makes some women shy away from trying an amazing sport. This article is full of reasons why women should take up boxing. I hope it inspires you to try it!

–          Builds confidence! Boxing is an amazing way to improve your self-confidence. It gives you a great sense of self-belief. Also because it tones you up and helps you lose weight it makes you feel much better about yourself! Boxing is challenging but when you overcome those challenges you will feel so confident in yourself that you can do anything that you set your mind to!

–          Fitness! Boxing is literally the quickest way to get fit. It is so physically demanding and will get you that summer bikini body in no time! Whether it is the warm up skipping, doing work on the punch bags, sparring in the ring, going on runs with the club… I guarantee you that you will become so much fitter and much more toned in a few sessions!

–          Self-defence! In this day and age as a woman you really do have to be careful and knowing a few self-defence moves which could potentially save your life could come in very handy! Boxing teaches you self-defence in a controlled manner.

–          Equality! At the boxing gym I go to you are treated as a complete equal whether you are male or female. By going to boxing it proves everyone wrong who said women could not and should not box!

–          Stress relief! Boxing is such a good stress relief, whether it is a session on the pads or the punch bag it releases anger in a controlled fun way!

–          Fun! It is such a fun sport! There is no feeling like putting on your gum shield and getting in the ring to spar, it gives you such an adrenaline rush!

–          Can get further quicker! One benefit of being a female in boxing is that because there are less of you doing it if you wanted to compete you can get titles easier as you have less people to fight to get to the top.

–          Cheap! Most boxing clubs provide their own gloves, pads etc. So you do not need any fancy equipment apart from your trainers and a few quid to pay for your session on the door!

–          Great for social life! The boxing club I go to holds fight nights every month on a Friday and it is so much fun to go along, support your club and watch the boxing. Through boxing you get to know so many people whether it is in your classes or at the events your club hold!

–          Not true to the stereotype! Despite the horror stories you have heard boxing is not as violent as everybody makes out. In training sessions if you do spar it is in a controlled environment with professionals helping who will immediately step in if needed. The training sessions on the pads and bags are not violent which just shows you do not necessarily need to be Rocky to box!

Boxing is such a great sport that more women should get involved in, so give it a try!

10 Reasons Why You Should Get Involved With The Squat Challenge!

The new fitness craze sweeping the nation (as you’ve probably heard) is the squat challenge! The Squat Challenge (as shown below) guides you with how many squats to do a day for a month getting progressively higher. Here are ten reasons why you should get involved!

–          Gives you a sense of accomplishment! By giving yourself a goal, sticking to it daily and completing it till the end makes you feel proud of yourself. It can be challenging so seeing it through until the end will give you a huge sense of accomplishment!

–          There are rest days! When I first looked at what it entailed and saw how many squats I had to do every day, I wondered if my muscles would ache too much to do the ones for the next day to the best of my ability. But then I saw every four days you had a rest day to give your muscles a chance to recover ready for the next set!

–          Beyoncé bum! Doing the Squat Challenge may be tough but you will come out the other side of it with a booty to rival Beyoncé’s and Kim Kardashian’s! The Squat challenge could be the difference between having a butt and having an ass!

–          Unites people! Women (and not forgetting men as well) are uniting everywhere to do this. You only have to type ‘Squat Challenge’ into the Twitter or Facebook search bar to find people encouraging each other. You can also (like I have) get your friends on board to do it with you. Doing it as a team is so much better because you all help each other along and encourage each other to keep the good work up!

–          Can be integrated into your daily routine! The squats do not take a while to do so if you integrate them into your daily routine they will not seem like a chore. For example do them when you wake up, before you go to bed, or whilst you are watching the latest TOWIE episode.

–          You do see the changes! I am only on day 9 of the challenge and I already notice the changes! It is really encouraging and helps you keep up the good work when you see positive results!

–          Celebrities are on board! Having influential celebrities like Khloe Kardashian doing the challenge is positive because it shows women everywhere (whether they are celebrity or not) are uniting to do this!

–          Works the whole body! The squat is literally one of the best exercises you can do for your body. It tones and works your whole body getting you that Summer bikini body in no time!

–          Beneficial! Squats strengthen your muscles, joints and ligaments which prevent injuries for you in the long run!

–          Improves balance and flexibility! Doing the Squat Challenge helps to improve your balance and flexibility in your ankles, hips, knees and back.

10 Reasons To Join A Book Club

–          Make new friends! You mix with so many different and interesting people at book club who all share a common interest with you – reading! So it is a great opportunity to make new friends!

–          Get to read books you would have never usually picked up! Book clubs introduce you to authors and books you have never heard of before or would never have picked up for yourself usually.

–          Get other people’s interpretations! Everybody is different and can bring something individual to the book that you would never have thought of before. For example people who are married, divorced, eighteen years old or thirty years old all bring something different to the book which you have not necessarily thought about before. Also people pick up things which you have missed in the book and it is not until they have said it that you notice it has been right under your nose all along!

–          A peaceful escapism! Book clubs are a great time out from the hectic world we live in! To sit down, have a coffee and discuss the book you have all read is such a good way to relax and de-stress.

–          Great way to learn new things! The more you read, the more you learn, so by reading all kinds of books (especially the ones you would not usually pick up yourself) you expand your knowledge!

–          It is free! This may not be true for all book clubs but the book club I am in and the ones at local libraries are often free of charge!

–          Improves communication skills! Book clubs are a great way for self-expression as you have to give your opinions of the books you read to other people. You can say if you like the book, do not like it and nobody is going to tell you that is wrong! This makes you much more confident because you are able to communicate your own opinion to your group.

–          Some books need to be discussed! Have you ever finished a book where something you never thought would happen happened? Like for instance the hero of the book died and you are dying to tell somebody and share the shock and frustration with someone else but nobody has read the book?! Well book club gives you a chance to do that! Also especially on books that have open endings it is really interesting to discuss the possibilities with others because they might have thought something different to what you did.

–          Helps you stick with books! Nothing is more frustrating than getting halfway through a book then not having time to finish it and by being in a book club you make sure you finish it. Having a deadline for when you have to finish it by makes it more of a priority to complete the book.

–          Makes you read more often! Sometimes you find you do not have the time to read but being in a book club makes you make time specially out of your busy day to read the book whether it is on the tube journey to work or waiting for someone in your car.

10 Reasons To Start Running

–          Running is such a good way to get fit! It is a whole body work out, whether you are running 1 mile or 10 miles it works your whole body.

–          It makes you feel good! Okay so maybe when you are slugging up that hill after already doing 5 miles it may not feel good at the time… but I can assure you afterwards you will definitely feel so proud of yourself for reaching the goals you set and being able to push yourself to the limit.

–          It is a great way to make new friends! Some people see running as a solo sport… which it is to some degree but why not get a running partner. My sister and I go running together and we can spend time together and work out at the same time. If you join a running club there are so many people with the same interest as you so it is really easy to make friends. One of the perks of a running club is swapping tips with fellow runners, whether it is which is the best way to train for a half marathon, what to eat before a jog, what trainers to recommend for cushioning your Achilles… anything!

–          You can help charity! Whether you are sponsored to do fun runs or long marathons it is a perfect way to make money for your chosen charity. My dad did the London Marathon a few years ago and he raised a lot of money for the local hospice which made a significant difference to them.

–          You can run anywhere! You do not need any fancy gear or there is no fee to do it (unless of course you join a running club!). You just need a pair of trainers and the world is your oyster!

–          Benefits your health all round! Running helps to lower blood pressure, helps improve your skin especially if you have acne, builds stronger bones, improves your core, strengthens your muscles, helps you sleep better, reduces the risk of heart disease… the list is pretty much endless!

–          Reduces stress! Whenever I am stressed I put on my trainers and headphones and go for a jog, I like to run long distance so when I am running it gives me time to think things through. When you run your body releases endorphins making you feel better and less stressed!

–          You will lose weight! You will see the weight literally drop off you when you run. I dropped two dress sizes running in 3 months! It helps you tone up everywhere leaving you feeling much more confident about yourself.

–          It wakes you up feeling refreshed in a morning! Whenever my alarm goes off at 7am it is so hard to leave my bed but once I have gone on my morning run I then feel refreshed and have so much energy for the rest of my day. Starting your day with a morning run gets you out of your zombie state first thing in a morning and helps you face the challenges of your day with high energy!

–          It gives you a ‘can do’ attitude! The only thing stopping you from reaching your goals is your mind. Whenever I have a big hill to slog up or know that I have to run a few more miles I could easily give up but having a ‘can do’ attitude keeps me going and because of this I feel so much better afterwards!
